NIOSH

The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 created both NIOSH and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA is in the U.S. Department of Labor and is responsible for developing and enforcing workplace safety and health regulations. NIOSH is in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is an agency established to help assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by providing research, information, education, and training in the field of occupational safety and health.

ASIS

ASIS International (ASIS) is the largest organization for security professionals, with more than 35,000 members worldwide. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics. ASIS also advocates the role and value of the security management profession to business, the media, governmental entities, and the public. By providing members and the security community with access to a full range of programs and services, and by publishing the industry's number one magazine - Security Management - ASIS leads the way for advanced and improved security performance.

SFPE

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers was established in 1950 and incorporated as in independent organization in 1971. It is the professional society representing those practicing the field of fire protection engineering. The Society has approximately 4500 members in the United States and abroad, and 57 regional chapters.

The purpose of the Society is to advance the science and practice of fire protection engineering and its allied fields, to maintain a high ethical standard among its members and to foster fire protection engineering education.

The Society supports the development of the annual Professional Engineer licensing exam in fire protection and the grading of those exams under the auspices of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. Several volunteer committees and task groups work under the Society’s auspices on technical projects to further advance the state of the art.

The Society’s activities include a series of educational seminars and short courses, technical symposia and conferences, books and publications, designed to advance the state of the art of fire protection engineering and provide technical information to the fire protection community. The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter SFPE Today, a peer reviewed quarterly Journal, and a quarterly technical magazine Fire Protection Engineering.

NFPA

NFPA membership totals more than 81,000 individuals from around the world and more than 80 national trade and professional organizations.

Established in 1896, NFPA serves as the world's leading advocate of fire prevention and is an authoritative source on public safety. In fact, NFPA's 300 codes and standards influence every building, process, service, design, and installation in the United States, as well as many of those used in other countries. NFPA's focus on true consensus has helped the association's code-development process earn accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

The full name of the IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., although the organization is referred to by the letters I-E-E-E and pronounced Eye-triple-E.

For nearly 60 years, the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) has supported the changing needs of its members, the industry and the nation. A non-profit 501(c) 6 trade association, the NBFAA has evolved into the largest professional trade association in the United States with the purpose of representing, promoting and enhancing the growth and professional development of the electronic life safety, security, and integrated systems industry. In cooperation with a federation of state associations, NBFAA provides government advocacy and delivers timely information, professional development tools, products and services that members use to grow and prosper their businesses.

A positive advocate for the electronic life safety, security, and integrated systems industry, NBFAA works at all levels to increase awareness about the value of the products and services members provide. The association supports new technology and applications with customized and relevant training and proactively promotes the industry through consumer awareness activities supported by trade and media relations programs. NBFAA also supports legislation and regulations that enhance public safety.
